The same saw, but without the cord: The MS 55-18 brings the MS 55’s construction DNA to the CAS cordless world—die-cast magnesium base plate, 10 to 55 mm cutting depth, bevel cuts up to 45°, 3.1 kg without the battery and 4.1 kg with the battery. Built for cutting on scaffolding, roofs, and assembly sites where the nearest outlet is three stories away.

The brushless motor operates within a speed range of 2,450 to 5,450 rpm; the electric brake stops the blade after it is released. The safety mechanism remains the classic splitting wedge: It keeps the cut open behind the blade so that solid wood does not jam against the blade during rip cuts—the operating instructions specify that blades should have a thinner body and wider teeth than the thickness of the wedge. The 32-tooth Construction Site blade is included as standard; dust extraction is via the 35-mm port, and the optional accessories for corded machines remain compatible—including guide rails and blades. The battery is CAS: one model for Mafell, Metabo, Lamello, and Prebena; not compatible with Festool or Bosch. It is available only as the PURE model without a battery or charger, shipped in a cardboard box—and according to the operating instructions, it is not approved for continuous industrial use.

Buying the Mafell saw at RUWI isn't something you should take for granted: We're manufacturers ourselves—tools for woodworking professionals from Fluorn-Winzeln, 4 kilometers from the Mafell factory in Oberndorf am Neckar. We carry products that we can recommend based on our own experience—and we'll tell you below where the higher-end models begin.

Here's how to use it

  • Off-grid cutting: Lumber, planks, and boards for scaffolding, roofing, and assembly.
  • Angle up to 45°: Set the angle using the scale, clamp it in place, and cut—just like with the “Netz” model.
  • Reuse what you already have: F-rails and the 160-series blade range for the mesh machines fit right in.
  • Working with CAS batteries: If you already have Mafell, Metabo, or Lamello batteries, you can get started without needing a new system.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The MS 55-18 is the straightforward answer to the question of a rugged cordless construction site saw at a reasonable price. If you need coated visible edges and the 45° swivel system with greater cutting depth, the K 55 18M bl is the right choice—and if you’re working near a power outlet anyway, you’ll save money with the corded MS-55. Newcomers without existing CAS inventory should factor in a Power Set at the PURE price.

You can read about why your vacuum should be Dust Class M in the knowledge article on wood dust extraction —and the Machine Advisor will help you find the right saw by asking you two or three questions.
