The MT 55 is a plunge saw for on-site panel cutting: shortening worktops, plunge-cutting sink openings, cutting doors to size, and formatting panels along the guide rail. It offers a cutting depth of 56.5 mm without the guide rail, and 45.1 mm at 45°. The saw has a swivel range of -1° to 48°, a power output of 1400 W, and weighs 4.5 kg. In addition to wood and engineered wood products, it can cut OSB, cement fiberboard, gypsum fiberboard, Trespa, facade panels, and plastics.

The scoring function is why it can be used on coated panels: activated with a single motion, cutting depth limited to 3 mm, and during the cut, the blade is automatically offset by 0.1 mm. The visible edge remains clean, even if the chip guard on the guide rail is already worn down. The cutting depth indicator can be rotated to “with guide rail” and “without guide rail”; the displayed depth is accurate in both cases. You can set the speed continuously from 3,600 to 6,250 min⁻¹; the markings 1 through 6 on the adjustment wheel help with setting it. The enclosed saw blade housing and the protective slide at the cut keep the dust inside the housing.

What has changed compared to the MT 55 cc

  • Edge clearance 8 mm: The flat protective hood allows cuts close to the edge, down to 8 mm from the wall (shadow gap 10 mm). This makes it suitable even for narrow baseboards.
  • Cutting depth at 45°: 45.1 mm instead of 40.5 mm, thanks to the new swiveling system.
  • The guard now opens wider for blade changes, exposing the blade. The safety lock and blade locking mechanism remain active while the guard is open.
  • Shorter deceleration time: The brake brings the blade to a stop in about 3.5 seconds; the previous model took about 5.
  • Series sheet: KSB-WF162 GT with group gearing instead of Z 48.
  • Suitcase MAX3 instead of T-MAX. Both stack on top of each other.

Here's how to use it

  • Shortening a worktop: Place the F 160 guide rail , score, and cut. The included KSB-WF162 GT with 49 teeth provides a clean edge that requires no further work.
  • Cutting openings: sink, cooktop, access panel. The F-RS kickback stop is located behind the machine in the rail; the MT-PA position indicator shows where the blade exits.
  • Along the wall: Position the saw directly against the wall, set the cutting depth, and start sawing. Leave 8 mm between the wall and the cut edge; this makes the shadow gap 10 mm wide.
  • Bevel cuts: Secure the angle setting by turning a screw half a turn at two points.
  • On foreign tracks: The MT 55 also runs on other rail systems.
  • Chips: Slide the viewing window down to the material before cutting; this will improve chip removal.
  • Dust extraction: 35 mm connection; the S 35 M fits there. The reason why dust class M is recommended for wood dust is explained in the article on wood dust extraction.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The same machine is available in a cordless version: the MT 55-18 PURE, if you’re already using CAS batteries, and the MT 55-18 as a complete set with two batteries and a quick-charge station. For material thicknesses of 56.5 mm and up, the K 65 takes over with a 67 mm capacity—it runs on the same rail but does not plunge. The case includes the KSB-WF162 GT for precision cuts in sheet materials; for solid wood, the KSB-WU160 GT; and for aluminum and laminate, the KSB-AL160 and KSB-L160 (available upon request). The blades can be resharpened from 162 to 149 mm, providing a 13 mm sharpening reserve.
