The MT 55-18 is a plunge-cut saw for on-site panel cutting, without the need for a power outlet: shortening worktops, plunge-cutting sink openings, cutting doors to size, and formatting panels along the guide rail. It offers a cutting depth of 56.5 mm without the guide rail, and 45.1 mm at 45°. The saw has a swivel range of -1° to 48° and weighs 4.5 kg without the battery. In addition to wood and engineered wood products, it can cut OSB, cement fiberboard, gypsum fiberboard, Trespa, facade panels, and plastics – each material with the appropriate speed and blade from the KSB range. The PURE designation means it operates without a battery and charger, ideal for those already using 18-volt CAS batteries.

Pre-scoring creates the visible edge: The blade advances 3 mm, and during the cut, it automatically positions itself 0.1 mm away from the score line. It's activated with a single movement. You can adjust the speed from 2,660 to 5,930 rpm – laminate requires a different speed than softwood. The cutting depth indicator can be set to "with guide rail" or "without guide rail"; the displayed depth is accurate in both cases.

What has changed compared to the MT 55 18M bl

  • Adjustable speed: 2,660 to 5,930 rpm. The predecessor ran at a fixed speed.
  • Edge distance 8 mm: Cuts close to the edge, up to 8 mm from the wall (shadow gap 10 mm). This makes it suitable even for narrow baseboards.
  • Cutting depth at 45°: 45.1 mm instead of 40.5 mm, thanks to the new swiveling system.
  • The guard has a wider opening angle: it opens further for blade changes, exposing the blade. As long as it is open, the safety lock and saw blade locking mechanism are active.
  • Series sheet: KSB-WF162 GT with group gearing instead of Z 48.

Here's how to use it

  • Shortening a worktop: Place the F 160 guide rail , score, and cut. The included KSB-WF162 GT with 49 teeth provides a clean edge that requires no further work.
  • Cutting openings: sink, cooktop, access panel. The F-RS kickback stop is located behind the machine in the rail; the MT-PA position indicator shows where the blade exits.
  • Along the wall: Position the machine directly against the wall, adjust the cutting depth, and saw. Cuts close to the edge can be made to within 8 mm, and shadow gaps can be 10 mm.
  • Bevel cuts: Secure the angle setting by turning a screw half a turn at two points.
  • On foreign tracks: The MT 55-18 also runs on other rail systems.
  • Batteries: 18V LiHD with 99 watt-hours from the Cordless Alliance System. All Mafell 18-volt tools run on them, and the packs are compatible with any CAS tool from other brands.
  • Dust extraction: 35 mm connection; the S 35 M fits there. The reason why dust class M is recommended for wood dust is explained in the article on wood dust extraction.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The PURE is designed for businesses that already have CAS batteries. Those starting from scratch are better off with the complete MT 55-18 set: two batteries and the fast charger together cost €210.20 net less than buying them separately. Those who work with a power outlet anyway can opt for the corded MT 55 and save money. It maxes out at 56.5 mm – for thicker material, there's the K 65 with a 67 mm capacity, which runs on the same rail but cannot plunge into the workpiece.
