Installing hardware, screwing in back panels, day-to-day cabinetry work overhead: that’s what the 12-volt class is built for—lightweight, compact, and always on your belt. The A 12 is Mafell’s compact model: an extremely short design for those tight spaces where a larger screwdriver can’t reach, and a center of gravity positioned in the middle of the handle according to the Ergo-Balance principle—your wrist maintains its position instead of having to balance the weight, and that’s exactly what you’ll notice after installing your fiftieth fitting.

And here’s the honest take on it: Others come out on top in the price comparison for drill/drivers—if you’re just looking for a drill, you’ll find cheaper options on the mass market. You buy the A 12 for a different reason: It’s part of the CAS system. A battery system for Mafell, Metabo, Lamello, and Prebena—not compatible with Festool or Bosch.

The fact that you’re buying the Mafell machine at RUWI isn’t a given: We’re manufacturers ourselves—tools for woodworking professionals from Fluorn-Winzeln, 4 kilometers from the Mafell factory in Oberndorf am Neckar. We carry what’s part of the system—and we’ll tell you honestly when the mass market does too.

Here's how to use it

  • Hardware and cabinet bodies: the lightweight solution for hinges, pull-outs, and back panels—even overhead.
  • Turning in tight spaces: the short version gets where the 18-series can't.
  • Staying with the system: The 12-V CAS batteries are used across the group’s compact-class models.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The A 12 is the second tool in the case: for delicate, light, and tight jobs. Drilling into solid wood, larger screws, and general construction tasks are the domain of the A 18; driving dowels into masonry is for the ASB 18 —and heavy-duty wood construction fastening is best left to the impact driver.

The equipment consultant can determine which machine is right for which job by asking just two or three questions.
