Accessories

One tool for everything the day brings: pre-drilling in solid wood, structural screws, rows of holes, assembly. The A 18 is Mafell’s 18-volt standard—a brushless motor, a pressure-sensitive switch for precise start-up, a pulse function for driving screws, and a center of gravity positioned in the middle of the handle according to the Ergo-Balance principle: Your wrist maintains its position instead of having to balance the weight—the difference between calling it a day and a tendon sheath injury.

The honest assessment: Other models win out in price comparisons in this product category—if you’re just looking for a drill/driver, you’ll find cheaper options on the mass market. The A 18 plays its part in the system: The same CAS batteries that are already in your KSS, plunge saw, or impact wrench now also power this drill—a battery system compatible with Mafell, Metabo, Lamello, and Prebena; not compatible with Festool or Bosch. And with its 43-mm collet, it serves as the drive for the Mafell drilling station: when clamped in, it drills in a guided manner rather than freehand.

  • Everything you need for everyday tasks: pre-drilling, screwing, and assembly—from the cabinet body to the substructure.
  • Precise control: A pressure-sensitive switch and pulse function guide the screw into the wood without slipping.
  • Guided drilling: Clamp the 43-mm collet into the drilling station —the screwdriver becomes a guided drill.
  • Managing a battery fleet: CAS batteries are swapped between the saw, screwdriver, and vacuum accessories.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The A 18 is the right choice if you’re familiar with the CAS system or are just getting started with it—as a DIYer working on your own without a system setup, the extra cost rarely pays off, and we’d rather tell you that than have you figure it out yourself. For anchors in brick and concrete, go with the ASB 18 with hammer action; for light-duty and tight spaces, choose the A 12 —and when torque in newton-meters matters more than a feel for the job, the SR 800-18 takes over.
