Our tools and machines are built to last. We use only high-quality components and have gained extensive experience in preventing problems in the workshop. We have 100% of our replacement parts in stock.

Boards, doubled-up materials, thick panels: The K 85 cuts 88 mm freehand and 82 mm on the F guide rail—and tilts up to 60° for miter cuts with full guidance. Guidance is provided at the pivot point on the lower edge of the rail; the 2,300-watt CUprex motor cuts through even tough cross-sections, and the 10-meter cable is included as standard.

As for the generational issue, to be honest: The previous model, the K 85 Ec, is still available in the lineup at the same price. The often-cited claim that the older model only tilts 45° is incorrect—both tilt from 0 to 60° with identical cutting depths. What’s truly new are the 10-meter cable, the base plate for use with crosscut rails, and the combined blade change—so you can make your decision based on facts, not rumors.

Buying the Mafell saw at RUWI isn’t something you should take for granted: We’re manufacturers ourselves—producing tools for woodworking professionals in Fluorn-Winzeln, 4 kilometers from the Mafell factory in Oberndorf am Neckar. We carry products that we can recommend based on our own experience—including those cases where another manufacturer offers a better solution.

Here's how to use it

  • Cutting 88 mm solid wood: either freehand along the mark or with an 82 mm guide on the rail.
  • Performing bevel cuts up to 60°: full range of motion with guidance at the pivot point.
  • Cutting heavy cross-sections: On the guide device L, up to 370 mm cutting length, with high repeatability.
  • Working on scaffolding: 10 m of cable included as standard, 6.8 kg.

Does this fit in your workshop?

For cuts over 88 mm, the K 105 takes over; miter cuts are more comfortable on the KSS series. And a candid look at the competition: The Bosch GKS 85 G costs about a third as much—if you’re doing rough cuts and can do without the 60° angle, it’s a reasonable choice. Festool often offers the HK-85 sets with rails at a lower price; if you like the FSK miter rail concept and 86 mm is enough, you’re in good hands there. The K 85 justifies its price with its power, the 88 mm capacity, the pivot-point guide, and its long-lasting value.
