What We Don't Carry—and Why

A dealer who tells you what not to buy is either crazy or honest. We believe that a curated selection is only as good as its limitations. That’s why we’ve listed here in full which Mafell machines we’ve deliberately excluded from our carpenter’s recommendations—along with the reasons why. And because “not recommended” doesn’t mean “not available”: We’ll still source any machine on this page for you upon request.

The S 25 L – the right technology in the wrong class

The S 25 L (starting at €631 net) is a sturdy vacuum cleaner. Nevertheless, we do not carry it because it is rated for dust class L—and for wood dust on hand-held machines, TRGS 553 requires dust class M with a flow rate warning device. The S 25 L lacks precisely this warning device; it only displays the flow rate without issuing a warning. For a carpenter, it would therefore be the wrong choice, no matter how attractive the price may seem.

The reasoning behind this: Upgrading to the S 25 M costs €285—this isn’t a markup, but rather the price for M certification and the required monitoring, with the motor, tank, and filter otherwise remaining identical. Our recommendation remains the S 35 M (starting at €1,056 net) with sensor-controlled cleaning. The legal rationale for this is explained in detail in the knowledge article on extraction systems.

NFU Groove Cutters – Woodworking Tools

The NFU 50 (starting at €2,359 net), its cordless counterpart the NFU 50-18 (available upon request), and the previous model, the NFU 32, can mill slots up to 60 × 50 mm, notches, and tenons—for truss panels, stringer boards, and beamwork. That’s timber construction, and that’s where they excel. In a carpentry shop, there simply isn’t a job for these tasks that would justify the investment. Anyone who needs slots in furniture-grade dimensions is better and more cost-effectively served by the LO 65 Ec and the router motor system.

The Carpentry Program—a boundary that Mafell sets for itself

Mafell has been manufacturing portable carpentry machines since 1926—that’s the company’s historical core, and the themed sections on mafell.de still clearly distinguish between joiners and carpenters. We follow the same approach: Anything listed under this heading is a good tool for a different trade. It’s not missing here because it’s bad, but because, as a master joiner, you don’t need it.

These include the ZAS brick-marking system, the Versum roof-measuring system, and the BionicBack Exo stabilizer—roofing tools that are not related to carpentry.

One borderline case deserves a mention: The K 105 (starting at €1,399 net), with a cutting depth of 110 mm, falls right on this line—according to the manufacturer, it’s the only handheld circular saw with at least 100 mm on the rail. We carry it anyway because window and door construction requires precisely this depth. Those buying it for timber framing are better off with the MKS models; those cutting squared lumber should come to us.

When Mafell Isn't the Answer

The sections above deal with individual machines. In addition, there are entire areas of work where Mafell isn't the right solution. That information also belongs on this page; otherwise, the curation would only be half-truthful.

Grinding: two machines, no system

Mafell offers two sanders—the EVA 150 E / 3 random-orbit sander (€512 net) and the UVA 115 E orbital sander (starting at €615 net). Both are technically sound. What they lack is the underlying system: Mafell does not have its own abrasive system, but instead ships both machines ex works with third-party abrasives under its own part numbers. Neither model is available in a cordless version.

For a single machine, that’s not a valid counterargument. But when you consider your grinding setup as a whole—machine, discs, grit series, and supplies over the years—the Mafell line doesn’t support that. Wireless: CAS Closes Four Gaps, but One Remains Open

Mafell is a founding member of the Cordless Alliance System—50 partner brands and over 500 cordless tools powered by the same 18-volt battery (as of April 2026). There are five categories that Mafell does not offer in cordless versions: planers, sanders, vacuum cleaners, routers, and DuoDübler. CAS partners cover four of these with the PowerTank, which you’re already using: the Metabo HO 18 LTX 20-82 planer, the Metabo OFV 18 LTX BL 12 router, the Lamello Zeta P2 cordless dowel driver, and the Starmix vacuum.

The fifth gap remains. When it comes to cordless grinders, there’s no answer within CAS—anyone who does grinding work on the assembly line notices this every day. We’d rather tell you this now than later, and we’ll work together to find a solution.

Here’s a warning that often gets overlooked during sales pitches: CAS is not compatible with Festool, Bosch, Makita, or Hikoki. If you already own one of these systems, every Mafell cordless tool means a second charging system in your van. It might be worth it—but it should be your decision, not a surprise.

Two Neighboring Worlds – Deliberately Not in the Consultant's Report

Two Mafell product groups are intentionally omitted from the configurator because they have their own section separate from our tables. The BST drilling stations feature a drill press with a 43-mm Euro-neck that is guided along the workpiece—ideal for serial drilling during assembly; the RUWI drilling table remains the stationary workstation in the workshop. The FM 800 and FM 1000 milling motors are built-in motors with a 43-mm Euro collar for CNC and fixtures—they do not fit into the RUWI router table , which operates with its own motor unit.

A perfect match: Shank cutters with an 8-mmshank from the RUWI router bit assortment fit into the OZ-collet of Mafell routers.
