Those who rarely need a planer can get the same job done in the Bosch class for a fraction of the price. And Mafell doesn’t offer a cordless planer—for cordless options, look to the Festool HLC 82 or Makita. The MHU 82 justifies its price with build quality that has stood the test of time for a generation of woodworkers, and with the most affordable consumables in its class. Surface finishing and dimensional accuracy are, in any case, best left to stationary planers.
