Assembling cabinet bodies: Attach the bottom to the side; join the top either flush or mitered. Make dowel and frame joints, drill rows of holes using the 32-system measurement, and prepare the hardware. Two situations show you that you’re in the right place: cabinet parts that need to fit perfectly when glued without you having to align them—two dowels spaced at a fixed distance secure the workpiece before the clamp is applied. And recurring edge distances in a series that you want to achieve without marking: the spring-loaded stop pins take the measurement, not the pencil.

Two holes, one stroke—that’s why 32 mm: A single round dowel acts like a swivel joint in the connection; only the second one makes it twist-resistant. The machine is operated like a flat dowel router, drilling holes from 3 to 12.2 mm in diameter at depths from 0 to 40 mm, and swiveling up to 90° with detent stops. And you’re free to choose your own supplies: standard round dowels from any specialty retailer instead of a single manufacturer’s proprietary connectors.

The fact that you’re buying the Mafell machine at RUWI isn’t a given: We’re manufacturers ourselves—tools for woodworking professionals based in Fluorn-Winzeln, 4 kilometers from the Mafell factory in Oberndorf am Neckar. We carry only what we can recommend based on our own experience—even if the honest recommendation for a different type of joint below comes from another manufacturer.

Here's how to use it

  • Joining cabinet bodies so they won't twist: two dowels in a single stroke—the piece is securely in place before the clamp is even applied.
  • Drilling rows of holes in 32-size increments: System grid without an additional jig.
  • Achieving consistent edge spacing in series production: spring-loaded stop pins instead of marking.
  • Joining miter cuts: Swivel range up to 90°, with locking positions at 22.5° and 45°.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The honest comparison: When loose tenons in narrow solid wood or assembly clearance in large assemblies are required, the Festool Domino is the gold standard—we’ll tell you that right off the bat. Detachable joints for trade show and store construction are Lamello’s specialty (Clamex). Most professionals who own both don’t replace one with the other—they use them together: the Domino for doors and frames, and the DuoDübler for cabinet bodies, rows of holes, and precision alignment. In any case, what really determines the strength of the joint is how many elements and how much gluing surface fit into the connection—not the logo on the machine.
