We have 100% of our replacement parts in stock.

The branch patch protrudes by one millimeter, the crack has been filled with epoxy, the branch plug is in place—and now what? Until now, the answer was: a chisel, a sanding block, and patience. The PF 80-18 is built for exactly this moment: a cordless planer with an 80-mm indexable insert head that trims protrusions up to 10 mm high flush with the surface—on a stair step, a tabletop, or a restored workpiece.

The machine operates in a supported position: The base plate glides over the flat surface, and the handle applies force directly to the plate—freehand operation is not permitted according to the user manual due to the risk of kickback, and it is precisely this guidance that ensures the result is flat rather than wavy. For flush milling, the protective hood tool-free folds upward; the paddle switch operates only as long as you hold it down, and the automatic brake stops the head in one to two seconds. The router head features four carbide indexable inserts, each with four usable cutting edges: flip them three times instead of sending them out to be sharpened. The battery is CAS: one for Mafell, Metabo, Lamello, and Prebena; not compatible with Festool or Bosch.

The fact that you’re buying the Mafell router at RUWI isn’t a given: We’re manufacturers ourselves—tools for woodworking professionals from Fluorn-Winzeln, 4 kilometers from the Mafell factory in Oberndorf am Neckar. We carry only what we can recommend based on our own experience—and we’ll tell you below where the specialist’s expertise ends.

Here's how to use it

  • Milling patches flush: Knot patches, crack patches, knot plugs—fold up the cover, place it in position, and mill away the excess.
  • Restoration and veneering: align patched areas and staircase repairs with the surrounding surface.
  • Working with hard fillings: solid wood, hardwood, and cured epoxy resin using the same bit.
  • Flip the cutting edges instead of sending them away: four indexable inserts, each usable four times—replaced using the included tool.

Does this fit in your workshop?

The PF 80-18 is a repair specialist, not a surface-grinding tool: If you want to calibrate entire panels, stick with a planer and a wide-belt sander—if you’re milling edges and radii, reach for the KF 1000, and for removing material from beams, the plane is still the tool of choice. Its specialty is the protrusion in the middle of the surface that none of these machines can reach cleanly. It’s only available as the PURE model without a battery or charger—if you already use CAS batteries in your workshop, you can get started right away; newcomers should factor in the cost of a Power Set.

You can read about why your vacuum cleaner should be rated M in the knowledge article on wood dust extraction —and the machine advisor will guide you to the right machine in just two or three questions.
