The idea behind it
Reiner Ruggaber
Brief description
A particularly high number of accidents occur at the panel saw in the woodshop. It is one of the most dangerous machines in the workshop—and things get especially critical when working with narrow workpieces. If the width is less than 120 millimeters, your hand will inevitably come close to the blade. That’s exactly where it gets dangerous.
The RUWI Premium Safety System takes a different approach: You clamp the workpiece onto the sliding carriage without tools and guide it past the blade. Your hands stay out of the danger zone—even when cutting small, narrow, or angled pieces. Tested by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Wood and Metal Industries (BGHM) and awarded the DGUV seal of approval.
What sets this apart from the Classic model is its ability to trim long workpieces. You clamp the plank using two swivel clamps at the front and back simultaneously. This prevents it from tilting or shifting during the first cut. The holding points on the narrow auxiliary stops grip the wood at specific points, ensuring nothing slips under feed pressure. This allows you to trim a curved oak plank on your own—without a second person or any auxiliary supports.
Everything is set up in about 10 seconds. The components are mounted on the wall panel next to the saw, within easy reach. The swivel arms fit onto the respective sliding carriages—compatible with Altendorf, Format 4, Martin, Felder X-Roll, and Hammer Series 3. Other machines available upon request.
Many carpenters safely cut small pieces using “Fritz und Franz,” the sawing aid from the employers’ liability insurance association. It’s tried-and-true and affordable. The RUWI system takes it two steps further: tool-free clamping in seconds instead of screws—and trimming long planks, something “Fritz und Franz” can’t do.
The Premium is the ideal choice for workshops handling a wide variety of workpieces, as well as for schools and training facilities with high safety standards. If you primarily cut small, narrow parts, the Classic model is often sufficient. It can be upgraded to the Premium later by adding a second swivel clamp.
