RUWI Tools in Austria – at Schachermayer in Linz
As a tool manufacturer based in the Black Forest, we work with specialty retailers who carry our tools. In Austria, that’s Schachermayer: an owner-managed family business based in Linz, founded in 1838, now in its sixth generation, and represented in eleven other European countries. This page lists where you can view and try out “ RUWI ” systems in Austria—and who your contacts are at Schachermayer.
See, touch, try: the world of retail consulting in Linz
At its headquarters in Linz, Schachermayer operates a 6,000 m² showroom for workshop and craft supplies. There you’ll find RUWI router table, workbenches, and lifting tables, as well as the safety system for sliding table saws —you can pick them up and try them out instead of just comparing pictures, and you’ll receive advice from staff who are trained on the systems. You can buy or lease them from Schachermayer; product details are available on our website at ruwi.de, including clamping tools and the RUWI drilling table.
Convenient for your daily work routine: You can pick up pre-ordered merchandise in Linz as early as 6:30 a.m., before your workday begins. Want to see a system in action? Give Schachermayer a call or request a workshop consultation directly with us—we’ll let you know which option is the quickest for your project.
From a Linz-based metalworking shop to a major European wholesaler
The company’s origins date back to 1838, when Joseph Schachermayr founded a metalworking shop in Linz. The metalworking shop evolved into an ironmongery, and in 1910, Rudolf Schachermayer Sr. introduced mail-order catalogs for the first time. After World War II, Heinz and Rudolf Schachermayer Jr. built up the wholesale business. In 1972, Roland J. Schachermayer joined the management team—under his leadership, the company began its international expansion, and in 1992, the first foreign branch was established in Budapest.
Since 2008, brothers Gerd and Josef Schachermayer have been leading the corporate group as the sixth generation of the family: Gerd Schachermayer is in charge of Schachermayer, while Josef Schachermayer oversees the subsidiary Rechberger. In addition to Austria, the company has a presence in eleven other countries—Germany, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Romania. Many customers refer to the headquarters as “Yellow City”: The company’s signature color, yellow, has defined the corporate campus and vehicle fleet for decades.
For machine buyers, one date stands out above all others: In 1977, Schachermayer opened its Machine Center on Linz’s Industriezeile—now Schachermayerstraße—and it has been continuously expanded ever since. Anyone visiting the consulting center today finds themselves in a building that has been selling and servicing woodworking and metalworking machines for nearly fifty years. This is complemented by the customer magazine “Holz und Eisen” and, since 2013, by the digital partner portal featuring a web store and catalogs updated daily.
Product Line, Service, and Showrooms
“Living, Building, Manufacturing” is the company’s motto. The product range includes over 100,000 in-stock items—including large and small woodworking machines as well as over a thousand consumables—plus metalworking equipment, furniture and construction hardware, fastening systems, tools, and occupational safety equipment. According to Schachermayer, ordered goods are shipped throughout Austria within 24 hours via the company’s own logistics network. For custom planning, there’s the “C.online” online configurator; for businesses with recurring needs, there’s C-part management. You can buy or lease woodworking machines—especially when purchasing your first large machine, this is often the difference between “later” and “now.”
In addition to Linz, there are showrooms in Vienna, St. Pölten, Graz, Villach, Rankweil, Innsbruck, and Salzburg. The availability of “ RUWI ” systems varies by location—a quick call will clarify this before you head out.
