From a Linz metalworking shop to a European wholesaler
The company's origins date back to 1838 when Joseph Schachermayr founded a metalworking shop in Linz. This metalworking shop evolved into an ironmongery, and in 1906, Rudolf Schachermayer senior introduced mail-order catalogs for the first time. After World War II, Heinz and Rudolf Schachermayer built up the wholesale business. From 1982, Roland Schachermayer pushed internationalization, with the first foreign branch opening in Budapest in 1992. Since 2008, brothers Gerd and Josef Schachermayer have been leading the company in its sixth generation. Today, Schachermayer employs around 2,200 staff and is represented in over ten other countries besides Austria, including Germany, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Romania. Many customers call the headquarters in Linz "Yellow City" – the company's yellow color has shaped its premises, vehicle fleet, and brand image for decades.
A dealer lasting for almost two centuries doesn't happen by chance. Schachermayer was often ahead of its time: the customer magazine "HOLZ und EISEN" has been continuously published since 1937, followed in 1989 by "SCH-direct," an early electronic ordering option, and in 2013, the digital partner portal with a webshop and online catalogs. Today, the in-house GMA machine trade fair brings together manufacturers of woodworking and metalworking machines with craft businesses and industry – new products are demonstrated live there.

"Living, Building, Manufacturing" is the motto. The product range includes over 100,000 stock items – in woodworking, dozens of large and small machines, plus over a thousand consumables, along with metalworking, furniture and construction fittings, fastening technology, tools, and work safety. Schachermayer states that ordered goods are usually shipped within 24 to 48 hours from its own logistics. For individual planning and ordering, there's the "C.online" online configurator, and for businesses with recurring needs, a C-parts management system. You can buy or lease woodworking machines – Schachermayer sees itself as a service provider for planning, procurement, manufacturing, and logistics.
