OPO Oeschger
OPO Oeschger – the Swiss wholesaler of hardware, tools, and machinery
As a tool manufacturer based in the Black Forest, we work with select partners who carry our tools. In Switzerland, that partner is OPO Oeschger—a long-established family business and wholesaler for carpenters, joiners, and glass and metal fabricators, with whom we have a close working relationship. On this page, we provide a detailed introduction to the company: its history, its product range, and what makes OPO Oeschger an established name among Swiss woodworking businesses.
With a product range of approximately 70,000 items, including hardware, tools, and machinery, one of the industry’s most modern logistics centers, and locations throughout Switzerland, OPO Oeschger supplies the trades sector quickly and reliably—from small hardware items to woodworking machines.
Progressive by tradition
OPO Oeschger sums up its philosophy in a single sentence: progressive by tradition. Here, tradition does not mean looking back, but rather looking forward and asking what customers will need next. Today, the company employs around 300 people, trains its own apprentices, and achieved annual revenue of approximately 175 million Swiss francs in 2025. Three values guide the work: leading the way and thinking proactively, being reliable and only making promises we can keep, and acting with a joy that inspires others.
This approach explains why OPO Oeschger sees itself as part of the industry and not merely as a supplier. As the main sponsor of the Association of Swiss Master Carpenters and Furniture Manufacturers, the company supports training and continuing education in the carpentry trade; it helps schools equip their workshops, and in its own customer profiles, it showcases real businesses and their work—such as a training workshop in the Engadin that trains young skilled workers. Added to this is a commitment to social and environmental causes: the headquarters in Kloten is Minergie-certified, and OPO supports social foundations in the region. For a woodworking business, this means a reliable supplier in everyday operations who knows the industry from the inside and never stands still.
100 Years of OPO Oeschger – A Family Business Now in Its Third Generation
The story begins in 1926, when Paul Oeschger founded his own trading company in Zurich-Oerlikon and named it OPO—after Oeschger Paul Oerlikon. In 2026, the company will celebrate its 100th anniversary. In 1934, his brother Max joined the company and took charge of catalogs and advertising. The second generation, Paul Oeschger Jr. and Peter Oeschger, expanded sales throughout Switzerland starting in 1948, established the logistics center in Kloten in 1972, and introduced computer systems that same year. In 1989, Peter Oeschger launched “OPO-Direct,” an electronic ordering system that served as the precursor to today’s online store. Since 1998, the third generation has been at the helm with Patrick Oeschger; he has been CEO since 2006 and owner since 2016.
To mark its anniversary, OPO Oeschger has summed up a sentiment that resonates deeply with us: A 100-year history isn’t written alone, but together—with employees, customers, and partners. It is precisely this understanding of partnership that shapes our collaboration with manufacturers such as RUWI.
Who OPO Oeschger works for
OPO Oeschger is a dedicated partner to the trades and industry. Its product range is designed for carpenters, interior finishers, and joiners, as well as glass and metal fabricators, architects, builders, resellers, and schools, which OPO supports in planning and equipping their workshops. Instead of limiting itself to a single trade, OPO Oeschger covers the entire spectrum—an advantage for businesses that want to source hardware, tools, fastening technology, and machinery from a single source.
The product range: 70,000 items for hardware, tools, and woodworking
The product range is both broad and deep. It spans everything from hardware for doors, construction, furniture, and sliding doors, to glass and metal building hardware, and lighting for furniture construction. In addition, there is an extensive selection of tools and fastening technology—machines, hand tools, consumables, and workwear—as well as wood construction technology for carpenters. The store carries well-known brands such as Bosch, Festool, Mafell, Fein, DeWalt, Lamello, Blum, Hettich, and Hawa. For woodworking, the machines and tools are particularly noteworthy, including those from RUWI.
A Look Inside the Logistics Center: Why Your Order Arrives So Fast
OPO Oeschger’s greatest strength can be summed up in numbers. Kloten is home to one of the industry’s most modern, fully automated logistics centers: an automated small-parts warehouse with 90,000 bins, a high-bay warehouse with 8,000 pallet spaces, and ten automated multitowers for long goods. Every day, around 1,800 packages and 230 general cargo shipments leave the facility; annually, 440,000 customer orders are processed—with a 98 percent on-time delivery rate. Orders placed by 5 p.m. leave the warehouse the same day; as a logistics partner of Swiss Post, shipments are CO2-offset. For particularly urgent cases, there is Post Express for same-day delivery, the Swiss-Express Innight night courier, which delivers before the start of the workday, and even an order option available until 6 p.m. This turns “fast delivery” into a predictable commitment.
Digital tools that make everyday workshop life easier
OPO Oeschger has been driving digitalization in the skilled trades for decades—the evolution of “OPO-Direct” from 1989 to the present is clearly evident. A good example is the SmartLabel labels: They are affixed to an item’s storage location, and a single click is all it takes to reorder directly. In addition, there are online configurators, such as for pivot door systems or self-locking locks, interfaces to industry software, flip-through catalogs, and a barcode scanner in the store. OPO shares its expertise through an expert and product blog, as well as through seminars and webinars.
OPO World: Switzerland's second-largest trade fair
A highlight on the industry calendar is OPO World, the company’s in-house trade show in Kloten. It evolved from the long-standing “Schreiner” trade show and is considered the second-largest industry event in Switzerland. In 2024, over four days, approximately 5,000 visitors came to discover the latest innovations in hardware, machinery, tools, and software solutions from 160 exhibitors across 4,800 m². The event also featured expert presentations, live demonstrations, and a behind-the-scenes look at the logistics center. OPO World is thus more than just a product show—it is a meeting place for the carpentry, woodworking, glass, and metalworking industries. RUWI was also represented there as an exhibitor and demonstrated its router table and lift table in action for Swiss woodworking professionals.
