From an imperial and royal enterprise to a global company
The company’s origins date back to 1838, when Joseph Schachermayr founded a metalworking shop in Linz that quickly rose to become one of the leading businesses in the industry in Austria. The metalworking shop evolved into a hardware store. In 1910, Rudolf Schachermayer Sr. introduced mail-order catalogs for the first time. After World War II, Heinz and Rudolf Schachermayer established the wholesale business; later, starting in 1982, Roland Schachermayer drove the company’s international expansion. In 1992, the first foreign branch was opened in Budapest. Since 2008, brothers Gerd and Josef Schachermayer have been leading the company as the sixth generation of the family.
Today, Schachermayer operates throughout Europe and has locations in Austria as well as in more than ten other countries, including Germany, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Romania. The headquarters in Linz, known to many customers as “Yellow City,” houses a 3,000 m² showroom—one of the largest exhibitions for workshop and trade supplies in Austria. The company’s signature color, yellow—visible throughout the company grounds, on the vehicle fleet, and in the #helloyellow brand identity—has been its hallmark for decades.
Find what you're looking for easily: our product range
“Living, Building, Manufacturing” is the company’s motto. Thanks to clearly organized categories, you’ll find nearly every power tool and matching accessory in our printed catalogs and online store. Thousands of products are clearly organized and can be ordered quickly and easily. The woodworking section, for example, includes 36 large machines, 162 small machines, and over 1,200 consumables that you can select and order online. In addition to woodworking, Schachermayer also covers metalworking, furniture and building hardware, fastening technology, tools, and occupational safety.
Service as a recipe for success
Schachermayer’s success is based not only on product quality but also on its service. This includes fast shipping within 24 to 48 hours thanks to the company’s own laser-controlled logistics, the “C.online” online configurator for custom planning and ordering, C-parts management to optimize operational processes, and access to a 400 m² showroom, open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. via access card. Woodworking machines are available for purchase or lease; Schachermayer sees itself as a service provider for planning, procurement, manufacturing, and logistics.
A driving force for the industry
Over the decades, Schachermayer has often been a pioneer in the wholesale industry. As early as 1937, the company launched its customer magazine “HOLZ und EISEN,” which has been published continuously ever since. In 1986, Roland Schachermayer established a new delivery promise for the industry with the “97-48-10” formula; this was followed in 1989 by “SCH-direct,” an early electronic ordering option, and in 2013 by the digital partner portal with a web shop and online catalogs. Even today, Schachermayer brings manufacturers, tradespeople, and industry together—for example, through the trade exhibition “Bauen, Wohnen, Fertigen” and the GMA Machine Hall Fair for wood and metalworking machines, where manufacturers demonstrate new products live.
Showrooms throughout Austria
Customer focus is at the heart of Schachermayer’s philosophy: In addition to its headquarters in Linz, the company operates regional showrooms in Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, and Innsbruck, among other locations, where customers can view products and receive expert advice. With extended hours and the option to pick up pre-ordered goods in Linz during extended hours, Schachermayer is tailored to the daily work schedule of tradespeople.
