Compact guide to carpentry workstations
A well-equipped carpentry workstation is easy on the back, saves time and produces clean results. In this short guide, we show you as a master craftsman or workshop planner how to set up a workbench or work table ergonomically and efficiently.
Ergonomic working height
The right height prevents back and joint problems:
- Fine work (drawing, fine grinding): approx. 5-10 cm above elbow height
- Light mounts: about 10-15 cm below elbow height
- Heavy work (planing, sawing): approx. 15-40 cm below elbow height
Practical tip: A height-adjustable lift table adapts to every task. A stepless, hydraulic lift table - e.g. the RUWI lift table with 20 mm hole pattern - allows you to work ergonomically in any position.

Health protection in the workplace
Less strain, more endurance:
- Protect your back: Raise workpieces to a suitable height instead of bending down. Move heavy parts with lifting aids or mobile lift tables.
- Clean air: Connect the extraction unit directly to the processing area.
- Good light: At least 500 lux, neutral white (~4,000 K), glare-free and shadow-free.
- Noise protection: Use sound-absorbing elements in the workshop and have hearing protection ready.

Order and organization
Clear structure saves distances:
- Tools within easy reach: frequently used tools at eye level (magnetic or perforated strips).
- Perforated walls & shadow boards: fixed places directly above the table - so you immediately notice what's missing.
- Storage space directly at the table: drawers, compartments or cupboards; small parts in labeled boxes.
- Mobile trolley: tools wherever you are working.

Clamping technology and table top
Good clamping = precise result:
- 20 mm hole pattern: 96 × 96 mm - quick positioning of clamping bolts, clamps and hold-down clamps (RUWI clamping technology).
- Quick clamping systems: tool-free, vertical and horizontal, 3D clamping also possible.
- Top material: HPL-coated multiplex - robust and easy to clean; optionally with anti-slip.
- Extras: table extensions, integrated shelves or drawers for small parts.

Quick check - your ergonomic workplace
✔ Height-adjustable work surface (e.g. RUWI lift table)
✔ Dust extraction close to the workstation
✔ Optimum lighting
✔ Tools within easy reach
✔ Flexible 20 mm clamping system
✔ Mobile tool trolley
✔ Easy-care table surface
With these principles, you can create a workplace where health, efficiency and quality go hand in hand.
